Self-powered Wireless Switches and Sensors

Energy harvesting wireless technology is derived from a simple observation: where sensor data resides, sufficient ambient energy exists to power sensors and radio communications. Harvestable energy sources include motion, indoor light and temperature differentials. These ever-present sources provide sufficient energy to transmit and receive radio signals between wireless switches, sensors, actuators and controllers, sustaining vital communications without cables and batteries. Instead of batteries, miniaturized energy converters generate power for the wirelessly communicating devices, keeping the maintenance effort to a minimum while still enabling highly flexible installations.

EnOcean Wireless Standard

The self-powered devices use the international wireless standard ISO/IEC 14543-3-1X – a protocol specifically designed to support very low power devices, an order of magnitude lower than alternative standards. The products achieve this by delivering very short data packets and by utilizing the 902 MHz frequency band giving robust signal propagation and minimal interference. The range of EnOcean wireless sensors is approximately up to 100 feet inside buildings. Repeaters can also be used to extend the signals.

Flexibility & lower installation cost

Thanks to wireless technology, LED lighting applications can be set up quite easily at low installation costs and only require a minimum of maintenance. Therefore, building operators can fulfill regulatory requirements and achieve immediate energy savings and increased comfort with low investments and a fast return on investment (ROI). The wireless sensors and switches can be flexibly and optimally positioned without requiring repair to walls or ceilings. Due to the self-powered operation they even eliminate the need for changing batteries.

LED Wireless Controls Standard

The wireless LED controls portfolio is ideal for both, new buildings and retrofits. The introduction into intelligent building technology is easy: for residential buildings, you connect a transmitter with a receiver – done. This basic installation can be easily combined with existing systems and extended at will.

The EnOcean based solutions on the other hand fulfill all requirements of modern house technology, in retrofits or in newly constructed buildings. Benefits for installers are:

  • Easy use and installation,
  • Suitable for simple and complex applications,
  • Easy planning and highest flexibility through freely positionable sensors
  • less noise and dirt
  • Upgradeable, expandable and flexible at any time
  • proven, future proof technology, Adaptable to technical innovations
  • … and all this at a good price/performance ratio and completely maintenance-free
